TWO NUMBERS.
ONE PURPOSE.
THE STORY BEHIND 1411
14 and 11. Two jersey numbers. Two chapters of life. One lasting philosophy.
The number 14 was the jersey I wore in high school. The number 11 was the jersey I wore in college.
At the time, they were simply numbers on the back of a uniform. They represented the teams I played for, the schools I attended, and the sport I loved.
Looking back, they represent something much bigger.
They remind me of the early mornings, long practices, difficult losses, great teammates, influential coaches, and countless moments that shaped the person I would eventually become.
I didn't realize it then, but the most valuable things I was learning had very little to do with baseball.
I was learning how to handle adversity. How to prepare when nobody was watching. How to be accountable to something bigger than myself. How to respond when things didn't go my way. And how to keep moving forward when the outcome wasn't what I had hoped for.
Those lessons followed me long after I took off my uniform for the last time.
They influenced my career, my approach to leadership, and eventually how I approached being a father to two young athletes.
Watching my own children navigate the highs and lows of competition reinforced something I had come to believe:
The greatest value of athletics isn't what you accomplish while you're playing. It's who you become because you played.
That's why 1411 exists.
We want young athletes to understand that their value isn't determined by a scoreboard, a starting position, a scholarship offer, or someone else's opinion of their ability.
We want them to develop confidence without arrogance, discipline without constant reminders, resilience when things get difficult, and the courage to pursue something meaningful even when success isn't guaranteed.
Through our book, athlete development programs, and ongoing education, we help athletes recognize that the lessons they're learning today can prepare them for opportunities and challenges far beyond sports.
Because eventually, every athletic career comes to an end.
But the person you become along the way is the person you carry into the rest of your life.
1411 — THE ATHLETE YOU BECOME.
Beyond the Game. Built for Life.
